I love this M&S Food Hall. Well stocked and organized, with helpful staff. Two recommendations: the fruit and nut bread at the bakery, and the Gold Box M&S tea. Most of their tea in bags is excellent, but the decaf tea, not so much. I also am sad that they pack so much produce in plastic, tsk tsk, not terribly sustainable.

I arrived in Edinburgh last week with nothing but jeans in tow, knowing that I had a couple afternoon teas booked for which I wanted something a bit more formal. So, I popped into M&S early this morning, prior to an 11am tea - I wasn't let down. I walked out with a beautiful pair of black pants (not sure how to describe them - the fabric almost seems embossed), as well as two hats and a scarf. All this for just over £70, which I felt was very fair for the look and quality of the items.

The girl staffing the fitting room was kind and helpful as I ran back for different sizes and lengths three separate times, and allowed me to leave all my stuff in the fitting room as I did. Checkout was quick, and again, the woman checking me out was very friendly.

I didn't make it past the ground floor, so I can only imagine what else this M&S has to offer. But, I'll say this to my fellow travelers - if you find yourself in need of new clothes, or just something slightly different that what you've packed, give M&S a try. They've got a huge selection, and it won't break your budget.

Oh my. Like oh my goodness I'm in foodie heaven. I'm almost kicking myself that I've lived in Edinburgh this long, walking past M&S who knows how many times, without ever thinking to stop in. In my defense the food hall could certainly be marketed better.

Nonetheless, locals seem to know what's up. This place was packed with shoppers either grabbing a quick lunch or doing their groceries for the week.

Sadly I couldn't stay as long as I wanted, but I could quite easily spend hours in this place shopping for different produce, exotic foods and wines.

I stocked up on quite a few ready meals which there was a huge selection of and some artisan hot chocolate which so far I've only been able to find on amazon.

It's pricier than most grocers and I don't know if it's because of the brand or location, but if your love good food then this is certainly a haven.

THIS is how I remember M&S.

The Marble Arch location in London is nothing like this store.

I love this location.  The food offerings are out of this WORLD!

Great selection of clothing as well.

Fabulous wine, cheese from the Continent as well as the UK.

This is the way its done.  London, are you listening?

The Edinburgh branch of M&S is one of the worst I've ever set foot in. The layout is really stupid. They put the food hall in the basement, which there is only access to at the back of the shop. The escalator arrangement is literally the worst because when you go up one, there is the one coming down from the next floor up forcing you to go to the other side of the balcony to get to the next escalator up.

Like Primark, BHS and Debenhams, this store is split into two halves. The Rose Street half is much better in my opinion because there is a staircase right at the entrance going straight down to the food hall.

The food hall in question is nice enough but it has a very low ceiling and has no windows. It isn't really as well stocked as the Gyle food hall and gets extremely crowded.

The cafe is also down in the basement, in a small dark corner of the food hall. It doesn't really have much seating and hasn't been decorated like the cafes at the Gyle, Craigleith and Glasgow. Getting to the toilets from the cafe is a nightmare because they are on opposite sides of the shop.

I would move the cafe upstairs so that the food hall could get a little bit bigger. There is a big empty space on the second floor which would be a very prime space for the cafe and I think they really should do that because it would make a much better experience to the current cafe.
